The University was adjudged the Best Tertiary Institution in the Development of Ethical and Morally Upright Professionals, while its Vice-Chancellor, Apostle Prof. Kwabena Agyapong-Kodua, received the honour of Most Outstanding Personality in Private Tertiary Education.

The award to ĢTVƵ highlights its distinctive commitment to shaping graduates who combine academic excellence with strong moral and ethical grounding. For years, the University has prioritised the training of students who not only excel in their fields but also embody integrity, responsibility, and leadership rooted in values. This recognition affirms the University’s mission to transform society through ethical and upright professionals.

Apostle Prof. Kwabena Agyapong-Kodua’s recognition as the Most Outstanding Personality in Private Tertiary Education reflects his transformational leadership. Since assuming office, he has introduced strategic reforms aimed at enhancing academic quality, expanding research, strengthening industry linkages, and promoting innovation across all faculties. Delivering the State of the Church Address at the opening session of the 46th General Council Meetings (46th GCM) of the Church currently underway at the Pentecost Convention Centre, Gomoah Fetteh near Kasoa, the Chairman indicated that the University A+ agenda was yielding results looking at the successes and nature of awards received by the University.

The State of the Church Address provides comprehensive information on various activities of the church including evangelism, church growth, and economic and social interventions for the year 2022.

Apostle Nyamekye reiterated the objective behind the University A+ agenda as “ĢTVƵ seeking to train graduates who are morally sound, intellectually outstanding and able to solve problems”.

The Chairman mentioned some of the prestigious awards received by the University in the year under review (2022) as the Overall Best Private University 2022, the West Africa International Award of Merit, 2022 and the Best University of Religious Values, 2022, by the National Clergy Association of Ghana.

“These awards showed the goodness of God towards ĢTVƵ, and the dedication of its faculty, staff and students.

ĢTVƵ is one of the higher academic institutions of The Church of Pentecost equipped to train the young generation to be morally upright intellectuals who will serve God and their nations with distinction.

ĢTVƵ has been adjudged the overall best private tertiary institution for the 2022/23 academic year.
This happened during the Annual Private University Students Association of Ghana (PUSAG) Excellence awards.
The Vice-Chancellor of Pentvars Prof. Kwabena Agyapong-Kodua was also honoured for serving as an epitome of excellence in leadership.
H.E. Daniel Adjei Damptey, the Pentvars SRC President, was also adjudged the Best Private University SRC President.

The awarding body, the West Africa International Press Ltd, acknowledged PU for their impact on both students and staff. Part of the statement added that ĢTVƵ’s strive in leading the creation of a research and problem-solving model of education in Africa is commendable.

The ceremony was participated by top notch universities in Ghana, Nigeria and other African countries. There were also top-level government officials and representatives from the Ministry of Education, the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission among others. Apart from that, there were also reps from renowned businesses who support tertiary education in their respective countries.

The award ceremony was preceded by a dialogue on the future of private universities in Africa, in which ĢTVƵ was called upon to share its success story.

The Acting Pro Vice-Chancellor of ĢTVƵ, Dr. Emmanuel Kwesi Anim who received the award on behalf of the Vice Chancellor, expressed gratitude to God for the achievement. Dr. Anim also dedicated it to the staff, students and the entire PU community. He added that “receiving an award at the International level is humbling and a testament of PU’s impact beyond Ghana.” Another recipient was Prof. Joshua Olamede who received the award on behalf of Bowen University, Nigeria.

The International Award of Merit received on Wednesday 24th August 2022 is the latest of prestigious ones that ĢTVƵ has received in recent years. The University has previously received awards on outstanding performance in health and allied sciences, communication studies, IT, engineering and sports.

ĢTVƵ becomes the 1st Institution in Sub-Sahara Africa to Offer Degree & Chartered Membership Certificates in Procurement & Supply Chain Management /pentecost-university-becomes-the-1st-institution-in-sub-sahara-africa-to-offer-degree-chartered-membership-certificates-in-procurement-supply-chain-management/ /pentecost-university-becomes-the-1st-institution-in-sub-sahara-africa-to-offer-degree-chartered-membership-certificates-in-procurement-supply-chain-management/#comments Sat, 24 Jul 2021 13:32:02 +0000 /?p=11235 ĢTVƵ has been accredited by the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS), UK, through the Ghana chapter to offer both degree and professional chartered certificates in Procurement and Supply Chain Management. According to CIPS-Ghana, this is the first of such collaboration in the West African sub-region.

The partnership was out-doored on PU campus on Wednesday 22nd July 2021. It was attended by management and staff of ĢTVƵ as well as CIPS Ghana. This means that students who study Procurement and Supply Chain Management at ĢTVƵ will be awarded the regular Bachelor of Science degree and full membership as Chartered Procurement and Supply Chain professionals. This arrangement shortens the convention where graduates in the field are required to write multiple exams at the Institute before becoming chartered members. It takes effect from from September this year as the University prepares to admit students for the next academic year.

Giving a brief background of the partnership, Dr. Joseph Lanton Mensah, who is the Manager for the Logistics and Supply Chain Management program at ĢTVƵ said full-fledged negotiations started in June 2020. He said CIPS UK took the University through rigorous assessment metrics. Dr. Mensah cited the evaluation and reconciliation of course structures, quality of faculty members, student internships as some of the metrics. He added that PU’s partnership with Salford University, UK also gave the negotiation process and leapfrog.

 

Commenting further, Dr. Mensah expressed excitement about the success of the negotiation and said the University looks forward to the international exposure that comes with it. He also looks forward to joint promotions on the side of both the University and CIPS.

 

The Vice-Chancellor of ĢTVƵ, Rev. Prof. Kwabena Agyapong-Kodua, who gave the welcome speech at the ceremony said the collaboration will give students of ĢTVƵ competitive urge. He said “ĢTVƵ acknowledges the keen competition among universities all over the world and therefore, working hard to give our students the competitive urge through collaboration with professional bodies such as CIPS.

 

The Country Director of CIPS Ghana Mrs. Stella Aku Addo in her speech reiterated the fact that this is the first time a University in Sub- Saharan Africa is given the accreditation for its students to receive chartered certificates of CIPS alongside its own degrees at the same time. She said her institute will do its part to protect and enhance this collaboration.

It happened on Saturday 10th July 2021 at the National Theatre in Accra.

According to the organizers, this award was largely based on students’ experience. They said the University’s ability to digitize its entire application process, fee payment and other salient operations within one year have greatly improved students’ experience. They also cited the paid vacation job concept the university has rolled out for its students as very innovative. These including the tremendous increase in enrolment at the university make it the obvious choice for the award.

The Chief Information Officer of the University Mr. Michael W. K. Gyimah who received the award on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor thanked The Church of Pentecost for the continuous support to the university. He, therefore, dedicated it to the staff, students, alumni and friends of ĢTVƵ.

Commenting on the award, the Vice-Chancellor of ĢTVƵ Rev. Prof. Kwabena Agyapong-Kodua thanked “God who is behind all the transformation at ĢTVƵ.” He also thanked the leadership of The Church of Pentecost, and staff who are driving the necessary changes in the University A+ agenda. He added that “it has come to challenge us to even do more.”

On his part, the President of the Students’ Representative Council of PU Mr. Joseph Danser said reflects the rapid positive changes at ĢTVƵ. He said “we thank God for this award which has come to boost the visibility of the tremendous transformation on-going at PU.” He also congratulated the management of the university on their good works that have” earned us this prestigious award.”

Another student Ms. Racheal Akpene Gadry on her part congratulated the University. She said, “we carry ourselves as students of the University A+ and awards like these come to confirm the attributes we say about our university.”

At the same ceremony, ĢTVƵ swept many other awards including the Most Innovative Vice-Chancellor, Nursing and IT departments of the year. A total of nine PU students and student-based organizations also received awards.

ĢTVƵ has won prestigious awards in five different categories in one night. This happened during the 2021 Private University Students Association of Ghana (PUSAG) Excellence Awards. The awards ceremony came off on Saturday 10th July 2021 at the National Theatre in Accra.

It was attended by the Deputy Minister of Education Hon. John Ntim Fordjour, former Minister of Education in charge of Tertiary Prof. Kwesi Yankah, former Minister of Trade and Industry Dr. Ekow Spio Gabrah, and other dignitaries.

At the ceremony, ĢTVƵ was awarded the “Most Innovative Private University of the Year.” According to the organizers, this award was largely based on experiences and opportunities for students. Apart from the Most Innovative Private University award, PU’s Department of Nursing and Midwifery was adjudged the overall best among the. This award was attributed to the facilities, faculty of the PU Nursing and Midwifery department and the incremental pass rate of the nursing and midwifery students at the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana’s licensure examinations.

This is the second time the department has won the coveted award, having been adjudged the “Overall Best” among both public and private Universities at the 2019 UMB Bank Tertiary Awards. On the same night, PUSAG also adjudged the Department of Information Technology as the best in the year.

At the same ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor of ĢTVƵ Rev. Prof. Kwabena Agyapong-Kodua was awarded the “Most Innovative Vice-Chancellor of the Year.” The selection for this award according to PUSAG was based on his leadership in driving the innovations that are transforming student experiences in ĢTVƵ.

Not only that, ĢTVƵ was adjudged the “Most Vibrant Private University on Digital Media.” This award was attributed to the consistent release of information by the university through digital platforms such as social media and the University’s website. This they said allows the student to access useful information on their phones with ease.

Additionally, a total of nine students won various awards at the student’s level. A PU students’ media organization, Oboo TV, was also adjudged the “Students Media Group of the Year.”

Receiving the awards on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, the Chief Information Officer Mr. Michael WK. Gyimah thanked The Church of Pentecost for the continuous support to the University. He also dedicated them to the staff, students, alumni and friends of the ĢTVƵ.

Dr. Daniel Walker has received a top award for the ‘development of ethical and morally upright professionals’ at the Ghana Development Award 2020. This happened at a ceremony organized by The Busines Executive at Marriot hotel in Accra.

Presenting the award, the Group CEO of The Business Executive Madam Paulette Kporo said Dr. Walker was nominated in the category of ‘contributions to the development of ethical and morally upright professionals and entrepreneurial classes in Ghana’. She, therefore, congratulated him  ‘on standing out in the Education sector for the second edition of the “Ghana Development Awards”.

At the award ceremony that took place on Saturday 12th September 2020, Aps. Dr. Walker emerged the eventual winner. He was, therefore, presented a plaque and a citation.

 

Commenting on the award, the Vice-Chancellor dedicated it to God and the ĢTVƵ community. ‘I must say I am humbled by this award and therefore dedicate it to God, staff the entire ĢTVƵ community, Aps. Dr. Walker said.

He added that ‘I must specially acknowledge alumni and students of the University whose professionalism and ethical conduct have earned this award’.

This latest award adds to a series of prestigious awards the VC has received in recent years, including the ‘Th Most Respected and Most Outstanding CEO in the Private University Category’ in 2019 by the Ghana Industry CEOs Awards.

Aps. Dr. Walker is a Ghanaian Theologian and Academic who holds PhD in Theology from the University of Birmingham, UK.  He is currently an Apostle and Executive Council Member of The Church of Pentecost.

He has served various positions at ĢTVƵ including Head of Department of Church History and Missions from 2004 to 2005, and Dean of Students from 2011 to 2016 when he became Vice-Chancellor.

In a letter addressed to Mr. Boasiako, the Chief Executive of ABE Global Mr. Rob May said, “I am writing to invite you to become a member of the new ABE Global Advisory Committee (GAC)”. It further stated that “I am reaching out to organizations and professionals who have demonstrated a sophisticated understanding of their local and global education market place”.

Mr. Boasiako who is the Acting Director of the College of Foundation and Professional Studies (COFOPS) at ĢTVƵ expressed gratitude for the appointment. “It is a privilege that ĢTVƵ has been recognized for this appointment at the global level. It is a testament of the great works the university is doing”, Mr. Antwi Boasiako said. “I, therefore, feel enthused to contribute my best to justify the confidence reposed in me and my university”.

The West Africa Director of ABE, Mr. Tony Atagamen who recommended ĢTVƵ expressed happiness that his recommendation was acknowledged by ABE Global Ltd, UK. He said the University’s performance in the ABE holds prospects for the program.

The Association of Business Executives (ABE-UK) is a UK certified program accredited by OFQUAL-UK. It is one of the professional programs offered at the ĢTVƵ COFOPS. Other short and professional programs at the COFOPS include Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM-UK), Institute of Chartered Accountants Ghana, (ICAG), Chartered Institute of Logistic and Transport (CILT-UK), Institute of Commercial Management (ICM), English Proficiency for Francophone Countries and Remedial for Senior High School students.

His PhD focuses on identifying issues that affect successful implementation and adoption of telehealth/mobile health in the developing world from the perspective of patients and health workers through a structured review of literature, questionnaire development, structural modeling of latent factors, and the development of a unified model for both stakeholder groups. He has presented his findings in a number of international conferences around the world.

He is the recipient of the coveted best paper award at the recently held Success and Failures of Telemedicine (SFT) Conference, 2019 organized in Gold Coast, Australia by the Australasian Telehealth Society. The SFT is highly regarded as the largest academic telehealth conference in the Southern Hemisphere.
